Frequently Asked Questions

Below are replies to some of the frequently asked questions we've received over the years. Please contact us if you have additional questions about staying with us at

Do the cabins have running water?

Yes. Although Bear Paw Adventure is located in a natural, scenic area on the Kenai Peninsula, all the buildings do have running water, pumped from our own drilled wells. Hot water is provided in the Wise Old Hunter Lodge, the Bear Den Vacation Home and the Anchor Point Captain Cook by oil-fired, high-efficiency on-demand water heaters. An electric water heater is used in Moose Cabin.

Do we need to bring sleeping bags?

No need to bring sleeping bags. All bedding is provided and this includes mattress pads, sheets, blankets, quilts and double pillows. Towels, wash cloths, shampoo and body and hand wash dispensers are also provided.

How far is it to Anchorage, Homer, or Seward?

The distance to Bear Paw Adventure from Anchorage is about 200 miles or about 4-1/2 hours. Seward is 155 miles and Homer about 15 miles.

Do the buildings have coffee pots?

Yes, an automatic coffee pot is furnished in each building, along with a supply of regular and decaffeinated coffee, coffee mate, sweeteners and tea.

Is there a view from the buildings?

Yes, the Wise Old Hunter Lodge and the Moose Cabin are tucked into the spruce trees and wildflowers, so that guests enjoy a sample of lodging in a remote Alaska wilderness, immersed in the flowers, trees, and wildlife. The Captain Cook Lodge is also in the spruce trees but offers a view of the muskeg and the mountains across Kachemak Bay. The Bear Den Vacation Home is in the spruce trees too, with a mowed grass lawn around the building with picnic tables, a horseshoe pit and a volleyball court. Fantastic views of the beach, Cook Inlet, Kachemak Bay and four volcanoes are available from just across the Sterling Highway and from nearby locations around Anchor Point.

Will Bear Paw Adventure take us fishing?

Our resident skipper is no longer doing fishing charters, but we have several top-notch charter operators that we work with and we will help you select a fishing charter that matches your interests - or help you with fishing on your own if that is your preference.

Are there places to eat near Bear Paw Adventure?

Yes, Anchor Point has several take-out and sit-down restaurants that are located within about a mile of our location. There are also many fine restaurants in nearby Homer.

Are there grocery stores nearby?

Yes, Anchor Point has two small grocery stores. Many of our guests stop at the big Fred Meyer store in Soldotna for groceries on their drive from Anchorage. There are also a big Safeway, food warehouse and other grocery stores in Homer, just 15 minutes away.

Can we prepare our meals in the buildings?

Yes, each building has a complete kitchen, supplied with pots and pans, cooking equipment, and stocked with supplies such as flour, corn meal, sugars, baking soda, baking powder, salt & pepper, seasonings, paper goods, dishes, glasses, tableware, etc. Catch a fish, buy some hamburger or steaks, and you will find everything you need to prepare your meal on the gas grill, the frying pan, or in the oven.

Are pets allowed?

All pets must be kept out-of-doors and are not permitted inside any of the buildings. Please read our pet policy.
